The wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Dr Aisha Mohammed, on Sunday distributed oral hygiene materials, motorcycles and cash to 300 orphans and vulnerable children in the Bauchi metropolis.

The gesture is aimed at facilitating the personal and environmental hygiene of the beneficiaries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the beneficiaries were drawn from the non- formal Islamiya Schools (Tsangaya), as well as motherless babies homes.

NAN reports that the motorcycles and cash were donated to the caregivers of the beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries were also given packs of blankets, slippers, toothbrushes, toothpastes and toiletries among others.

Mohammed said that the gesture was extended under Al-Muhibbah Foundation, an NGO working to educate children on hygiene in Bauchi State.

While tasking caregivers on moral upbringing of children, the governor’s wife described non-formal teachers as dedicated tutors.

She added that proper guidance and counselling sessions done were included in their teaching processes.

Mohammed said that “messages on personal and environmental hygiene are key in curbing the spread of diseases in the state.

“Al-muhibba is an NGO that supports women and children, hygiene is key to best health practices, so the children should be aware of such information.

Earlier, Zainab Waziri, a health expert in the state, demonstrated to the children some techniques of regular brushing to improve oral hygiene.

In his remark, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN),Bauchi State, Mr Abraham Damues, expressed appreciation for the gesture , adding, “such an act would sustain good hygiene practice among the children.” (NAN)
