A 17-year old Adeleye Iyanu, was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing, breach of peace.

Iyanu, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 2 at about 13:00hrs at No. 43 Agric Road in Ado-Ekiti.

Adeniyi alleged that the defendant stole a shirt and knickers valued at N27,000 belonging to one Adubu Kolawole.

He also alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

According to him, the offences contravenes Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Aduni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant her client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 24 for hearing.
