On Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari asked the Senate to approve a $800 million loan to fund the National Social Safety Network Programme, or NSSP.

Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read aloud to the Senate on Wednesday by Ahmed Lawan.

According to the President, the funds will be distributed to 10.2 million low-income households over a six-month period, with a projected multiplier effect of 60 million people.

As a result, the President urged lawmakers to move quickly on the request for proper implementation.

Under the program’s conditional cash transfer window, each of the 10.2 million individuals will receive N5,000 per month.
