Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki was stranded at the RCC junction on Sapele Road in Benin, Edo State, after heavy rain caused the road to flood and become impassable.

A video of the incident, which occurred on Friday, is trending online, with a background voice encouraging viewers to share the video to demonstrate that it is time for leaders who fail to take necessary action to help the people to face repercussions.

“When we told the government to fix the road, they were busy filling the potholes with broken blocks,” said the background (male) voice. They believe they are causing the masses to suffer. It is now time for retaliation, as the masses are not the only ones suffering from the collapse of this road.

“The governor is inside the vehicle, but it is no longer moving.” This is his vehicle (he points to it), and he is too embarrassed to come down. “Everyone (poor and rich) is bearing the brunt of the country’s bad policies,” he added.

The convoy was eventually seen moving away from the flooded section of the road.

Governor Obaseki, on the other hand, stated that the state government cannot intervene in the repair of the Benin-Auchi and Benin-Sapele roads because the Federal Government has awarded contracts for their repair.

The governor expressed concern that the state’s major Federal road networks, which connect several parts of the country, are in poor condition.

He stated that his administration has done everything possible to persuade the Federal Government to look into the repairs of Edo State’s extensive network of damaged Federal Roads.
