In a concerning development, Nigeria experienced yet another power grid collapse, marking the sixth occurrence this year. The electricity generation on the system plummeted from 2,583.77 MW at 2am on Monday to a mere 64.7 MW by 3 am.

Nigeria’s electricity generation stands at an average of 4,000 MW, catering to the needs of approximately 200 million citizens throughout the country.

However, the sustainability of this situation is questionable, as the power grid is facing frequent collapses caused by issues such as gas supply constraints, vandalism of transmission infrastructure, and a liquidity crisis.

Jos Electricity Distribution Company has confirmed the occurrence of a grid collapse.

In a notice to customers, Dr. Friday Elijah, the Head of Corporate Affairs at JEDC, explained that the ongoing power outage in their franchise states is due to a loss of power supply from the national grid.

In a sudden turn of events, power supply from the national grid was abruptly cut off in the early hours of today, Monday, April 15, 2024. As a result, there has been a widespread loss of power supply on all our feeders.

Elijah expressed optimism that the grid would soon be restored, allowing electricity consumers to have access to normal power supply.
