According to her roommate, who requested anonymity, Najaโatu Salisu had completed her morning routine and was preparing for class. “She had done every routine preparation for the morning class before going into the bathroom,” the roommate said. “Najaโatu had selected clothes to wear to class and kept them by the side of her bed.”
The universityโs Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, provided further details. “Najaโatu, after bringing out her study materials in the morning, entered the bathroom to shower while her sister waited for her so that they could both attend the lecture together,” Bappa explained.
Her sister became concerned after noticing Najaโatuโs prolonged absence and went to check on her, only to find her unconscious on the bathroom floor in the female hostel at the Gubi campus. After raising the alarm, Najaโatu was rushed to the universityโs clinic. However, medical personnel were unable to find a vein for transfusion, indicating the severity of her condition. She was then transferred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors.
Bappa stated that Najaโatuโs parents, who reside in Abuja, were informed of the tragic news and accepted the situation. They requested that her funeral prayer and burial be conducted according to Islamic rites, which have since taken place.
The leadership of the Students Union Government (SUG) at ATBU Bauchi, along with other student unions, clubs, and society groups, have issued condolence messages to Najaโatuโs family and the university authorities, describing the incident as “unfortunate.”
