The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of German coach Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
This decision, which takes effect immediately, was confirmed by NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, who stated, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.”

Labbadia, born on February 8, 1966, in Darmstadt, Germany, brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. His playing career included stints with several top German clubs such as Bayern Munich, FC Cologne, and Werder Bremen, and he earned two caps for the German national team, Die Mannschaft. As a player, he notably won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich in 1994.
Transitioning into coaching, Labbadia has managed teams like Hertha Berlin, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, and Hamburger SV. He holds a UEFA Pro License and is recognized for his tactical acumen.
Labbadia’s appointment marks him as the sixth German to lead the Super Eagles, following in the footsteps of predecessors like Berti Vogts and Gernot Rohr. His immediate task will be to guide the three-time African champions through crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches, starting with Benin Republic on September 7th in Uyo and Rwanda on September 10th in Kigali. Four more qualifying matches are scheduled for October and November.
Finidi George appointed as Rivers Unitedโs new head coach
Recall that Daily News 24 reported how former Super Eagles coach Finidi George, quickly found a new managerial position at Rivers United, a prominent team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
This new role came just three weeks after his resignation as head coach of Nigeriaโs menโs senior national team.
The club expressed their enthusiasm in a statement: โRivers United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Finidi George as our new technical manager.โ
The club highlighted Finidiโs extensive experience and impressive credentials, noting his successful playing career of over fifteen years. โHis impressive credentials include winning the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 1994, the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1995, and the Nigeria Premier Football League with Enyimba International FC in 2023,โ the statement continued.
