The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted media claims suggesting that inmates in Kano State are inadequately fed and cared for.

Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa, Superintendent of Corrections and Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Command, addressed these claims in a statement on Thursday.

He described such reports as “unfortunate” and aimed at damaging the command’s reputation. Lawan explained: โ€œThe command wishes to inform the general public that inmatesโ€™ welfare is a top priority, and that the command always ensures that they are given proper care despite economic challenges.โ€

He further noted: โ€œThe public is aware that the Federal Government recently carried out an upward review in the feeding rate for inmates, thereby improving their wellbeing.โ€

Lawan emphasized that โ€œthe Service ensures that inmates are not only properly catered for, but also are empowered in educational and vocational skills training for their smooth reintegration back to their various communities.โ€

He urged the public to disregard the inaccurate reports, stating they are intended to mislead. He concluded with a reassurance: โ€œThe command is committed to ensuring that the human rights of inmates are protected and promoted.โ€
