Following the sacking of Ronald Koeman from Barcelona, the club has been shaken to its core. The Catalan club has clear its intentions to bring in a long term manager.
The preferred candidate, Xavi Hernandez, is an assertive character and is reportedly just days away from being made the official manager of FC Barcelona.
With managers such as these comes squad requirements that have to be fulfilled. Recently reports came out about there being a list of players that the Barça legend reportedly wanted out of the team.
- Yaya Toure willing to assist Barca amidst club’s impeding crisis
- Dani Alves wants Barcelona return aged 38
- Barcelona sack Koeman as head coach and offer role to Xavi
According to Catalan news outlet El Nacional, Gerard Pique is among these players pointed out to Laporta.
It is said that if the style of play which Xavi wishes to impose does not work with Pique, then he sees it fit to turn him into a secondary player.
The Spaniard wants to feel important to the team, and as such, a secondary role will not suit him.
The report further stated that it would be tricky for Xavi to manage a player that is also a close friend of his. After all, both were at the heart of one of the best Barcelona teams in history and know each other very well.
Asking for obedience from such a person is something he reportedly sees as tricky.
Going back to the summer of 2020, Pique himself said that if the club sees no more use in keeping him, then he would part ways with it.
Should Xavi tell him that he can no longer play, then he will leave the club. It is very likely that this season will be his last. (BarcaU)
