Burkina Faso and Mali have reportedly stationed warplanes in the in Niger, in preparation for any potential aggression from ECOWAS Niger’s RTN TV reports.

By deploying their aviation assets to Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali are fulfilling their obligations outlined in the joint solidarity communique with Niger.

The objective is to present a strong defense against any form of aggression targeting Niger.

Abdel-Fatau Musah, the commissioner for political affairs, peace, and security of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), revealed Friday August 18 that while the commencement date of the West African bloc’s military intervention in Niger has been decided, it has not been publicly disclosed.

Daily News 24 reports that on Saturday August 19, delegation from ECOWAS arrived Niger to engaged in what is considered a last ditch l talks to ensure a return to constitutional order.

The coup, which occurred on July 26, saw military Presidential guard to President Mohamed Bazoum seize from power from the president.

They subsequently implemented measures solidify their hold to power, measures such as the closure of Niger’s borders, a curfew, suspension of the constitution, and a ban on political parties.

The Economic Community of West African States condemned the coup, issuing a one-week ultimatum to restore constitutional order and warning of potential measures, including military intervention.
