Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Friday ordered the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba to arrest three businessmen accused of stealing 245 cartons of cosmetics worth N19 million.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Fadipe ordered that the defendants, Tunde Yusuf, Adebayo Dayo and Michael Obisiji be produced before the court.

She ordered the arrest of the three suspects, following their absence to take their plea in a charge filed against them by the I-G through the Force CID, Alagbon, Lagos.

She directed the police to arrest the defendants before the next adjourned date.

The judge adjourned the case until Feb. 8 for arraignment.

The prosecution counsel, ACP Morufu Animashaun, had in a suit marked LD/13338C/2020, alleged that the suspects and others at large sometime in March, 2020 at Apapa Tin-Can Port, stole 245 cartons of cosmetics, property of Remiginus Okafor.

Animashaun informed the court that he does not know the whereabouts of the suspects when the cases was called.

“We have not been able to get them my lord.

“The investigation team has been transferred out of jurisdiction due to insecurity in the country,” he said.

The prosecution filed two counts charge of conspiracy to commit felony to wit: stealing and stealing against the defendants.

According to him, the alleged offence contravened the provisions of sections 287(5) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
