Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Italian goalkeeper and England’s heartbreaker in the Euro 2020 final, has inscribed his arm with a tattoo of the trophy.

Donnarumma, 22, crushed English dreams when he saved two penalties – from Jadon Sancho and then Bukayo Saka – as Italy edged out England 3-2 on penalties at Wembley in the European Championship final on Sunday July 11.

His spot-kick heroics against both England and Spain in the semi-final saw him named as the Player of the Tournament, the first time in history a goalkeeper has won the award.

And the Paris Saint-Germain star has attempted to commemorate the day by getting a large tattoo on his left arm.

As shown on his Instagram account, which has 3.2million followers, his left arm now bears a permanent reminder of the win, with the trophy flanked by ribbons in Italian colours and the date of the final inked below that, just above his wrist.

Italy captain Giorgio Chiellini compared him to legendary Azzurri goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon after the final, saying: ‘I’m lucky because I’ve played with Gigi Buffon – now I play with Gigi Donnarumma and it’s the same!’

Donnarumma through at the Italian side aged just 16 and was virtually an ever-present after that, making 251 appearances in all competitions in his six seasons at the San Siro.

But after his contract expired this summer and a host of clubs chasing him, he eventually plumped for PSG, where he signed on a free transfer with a five-year contract.

After signing, he said: ‘I am delighted to be part of this huge club. I feel ready to take on this new challenge and continue to grow here. With Paris, I want to win as much as possible and to bring joy to the supporters.’
