Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to set performance targets for themselves during the service year.

The governor gave the advice at the closing of the orientation course for 2022 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 Corps members, on Tuesday in Kaduna.

He said that the performance target should be in the area of community development and entrepreneurship to enable them do self-assessment at the end of the service year.

According to him, this will also enable them to focus on contributing towards breaking down of barriers to rapid socio-economic development in the state.

El-Rufai, represented by the Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, said the scheme has touched many lives in Kaduna state and the country at large.

He therefore challenged them to “ensure high performance at their personal and various places of primary assignment to ensure maximum contribution to the development of the state and the nation.

“In Kaduna state, we are ever ready to support the NYSC towards maximum realisation of its goals and objectives.

“Our expectation is therefore that you will reciprocate the gesture by working assiduously towards the maximum realisation of set goals and objectives for further development of the state.”

The governor also urged the corps members to initiate and execute community development projects, so as to leave lasting legacies.

He implored all stakeholders and employers to pay necessary attention to the welfare of corps members, and support and encourage them throughout the service year.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Odoba Abel, thanked the corps members for the discipline and commitment they exhibited during the orientation course.

He encouraged them to exhibit similar conduct in their places of primary assignment and adapt quickly to the culture and customs of their host communities.

“The people of Kaduna state are hospitable, if you look around, you will see the fleet of buses sent by different Local Government Councils to convey you to your places of primary assignment,” he said.

The coordinator implored the NYSC members to reciprocate the goodwill by being committed to their assignment and contributing to the improvement of their host communities.

Abel further advised them to avoid truancy and engaging in acts capable of denting the image of the service.

He thanked the state government, military and paramilitary as well as other stakeholders for their huge support to the scheme.
