Four people were killed and several houses reportedly burned down after gunmen invaded the Gwaruma community in Katakpa Ward in Toto LGA of Nasarawa State.

A resident, Suleiman Adamu, said the incident happened around 5 a.m. on Tuesday as residents were about to proceed to observe Subhi prayers when the gunmen invaded the community and started shooting sporadically.

He said the armed men gunned down four people and set houses ablaze, including nine motorcycles and other valuables.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Toto LGA, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Tashas, has condemned the attack, describing the attackers as heartless and senseless.

Tasha, who was represented by his vice, Alhaji Abubakar Haruna Kwanakis, who visited the community on Wednesday in company with security agents to commiserate with the families of those killed, urged the security agents to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.

The chairman, while expressing his administration’s determination to protect lives and property, said he would not fold his hands and watch unscrupulous elements cause tension in the area.

Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Toto, CSP Yusuf Alkali, who was in the company of the chairman, advised residents to be security-conscious and always be alert in reporting any suspicious persons to the police.
