A reknown Hausa musician, late Alhaji Musa Dankwairo in one of his songs claimed that there are only two Sardaunas in Hausaland, the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello and Sardaunan Dutse, Alhaji Maitama Bello a former minister. Many years after Dankwairo has passed away, a new breed Sardauna has emerged this time in Kano.

Recently, the Emir of Rano appointed Hon. Alhassan Ado Garba Doguwa as the Sardauna of Rano. Hon. Doguwa who is the Majority Leader in the House of Representatives is also the longest serving member in that chamber.

Late last year when Hon. Doguwa was sworn in after his mandate was cut short for a re run which he won by landslide, he surprised many when he told the world that his four beautiful wives have given him more than 20 children and “I’m still counting”. Apart from been blessed with a beautiful family, the House Leader who is also the longest serving member has many things he is counting in life.

Hon Alhassan Ado Garba Doguwa whose immense contribution in Kano state, particularly his Doguwa/ Tudun Wada Federal Constituency cannot be ignored has assisted in getting federal employment for a large number of youths who are now productive in life. This gesture and many others convinced the Rano Emirate in Kano state that Doguwa is not only a good material in the area of politics but a better traditional title holder with zeal to bring positive changes to the emirate. He was therefore honoured with the position of Sardaunan Rano.

Alhassan Ado Garba ( Doguwa) a graduate of Mass Communications from the Bayero University, Kano is the oldest serving member in the House of Reps and currently, the Majority Leader in that chamber. He began his political adventure as a student activist in the late 80’s and became the president of the mass communication Students Association known as MACOSA between 1989 and 1990 when he graduated and immediately after his compulsory NYSC, he joined active politics and with his background in politics way back as a student, he found his way into national limelight in the early 90’s and has been in active politics since then.

He missed the opportunity of becoming the House Leader after the 2015 elections and settled as its Chief Whip but schemed his way back in 2019 for the House Leader position.
It is not clear whether Doguwa’s ambition is to go to the senate or have a shot at the Government Lodge in Kano or possibly aspire to be House Speaker but one thing is certain, this ambitious, a little over 50 politician has the sky as his limit. As the longest serving member, there is no better person to share his experience with the entire House than him. If he decides to cross over to the Senate, age is still on his side and his long term experience at the House of Reps would be added advantage. But then, if the Lodge in Kano beckons on him to lead the Ancient city of Kano, the years spent in Abuja would surely produce one of the finest state Chief executives ever to rule Kano Dabo.

We expect many more Doguwa’s in our midst to copy from the generosity shown by this sagacious and powerful member whose years of active service have always been service to humanity. Every year during Ramadan, he spends over N30 million on feeding and clothing the poor and his doors have always been opened to his constituents, Kano indigdnes and other Nigerians.

History would be fair to him in the future by tagging him among those politicians and title holders who came, saw and conquered their beats.
