The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, has decorated 56 newly-promoted Senior Police Officers and others, at the Peace Keeping Conference Hall, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

A total of 465 officers were promoted to various ranks, including 12 Assistant Inspectors General and 44 Commissioners of Police that were decorated on Thursday.

DIG Sanusi Lemu, representing the IG, thanked the President Muhammadu Buhari. He noted that the promotions were well-deserved, adding that the IG looked forward to continued collaboration between the NPF, the Minister of Police Affairs, and the Police Service Commission.

“This event, like other previous ones under the current Force leadership, was guided by the principles of seniority and merit. It also took due cognizance of the unblemished service records and invaluable experiences of the benefiting officers.

“Under this current exercise, a total of 465 officers were promoted to various ranks and I assure you all that the exercise will continue towards ensuring that deserving officers are elevated as and when due.

“Indeed, the continuous identification and promotion of deserving and qualified personnel of the Force remains one of the cardinal agendas of my leadership.

“This is because of my firm conviction that promotion serves two key purposes in the Nigeria Police as in other organisations.

“First, it is a reward for service excellence and a motivational initiative,” he said, reading the IG’s speech.

Lemu also noted that promotion is a critical administrative instrument for elevating and repositioning competent personnel towards the attainment of critical internal security mandate.

He said, “In line with this, all of you, the newly promoted officers, will be immediately deployed to critical duty posts where your strength of character and professionalism shall be optimally tested.

“I trust that you shall not fail the Nigeria Police Force, neither will you fail the nation in the demanding responsibilities that your new rank shall impose on you.

“I heartily congratulate and share the joy of the moment with all the newly promoted officers, their families, and friends. I pray that Almighty Allah continues to perfect your careers and grant you all the courage to sustain and continually exhibit those professional virtues that led you this far in your career.

Dignitaries present were the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, among others.
