Kano Antigraft body receives 2, 256 complaints, recovers N521m, other achievements in 2020

Kano State Public Complaints and Anticorruption Commission says it has received Two Thousand Two Hundred and Fifty Six complaints in the year 2020.

The commission had in the year under review also recovered more than Five Hundred and Twenty One Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand One Hundred and Twenty Two Naira.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado disclosed this during a joint press briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in the state.

Barrister Muhuyi Magaji noted that the commission was able to clamp down on hoarders of essential commodities where billions of Naira products were confiscated but later reached an agreement with the traders to sell them to the public, which is the target of the commission.

While narrating other achievements of the Kano Antigraft body the Executive Chairman added that in 2020 “the commission clamp down and arraigned diverters of COVID-19 palliatives.

“Recovered and returned to the rightful owners over 400 plots of land of different density across the state.

“Settled more than 60 cases of sensitive security case involving farmers and herders mostly on encroachment of cattle route. In this, many people were charged to court and lingering crisis were averted example of this is in Dambatta, Bagwai and Tudunwada Local Government and many more.” Barrister Rimingado said.

The Executive Chairman also added that the commission achieved in the period under review established the Kano Anti-corruption Institute KANCI to train the commission’s staff and other civil servants from within and outside the state.

The Executive Chairman while hinting on the success story of the commission in 2021 said: “The commission recently brought succour to residents with the intervention into the alleged hoarding of fuel by some petroleum products marketers in the state.”

Muhuyi Magaji reiterated commitment of the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission in ensuring Kano continues to be listed amongst top states fighting corruption in the country.
