Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has joined other northern governors in traveling to the United States of America (USA) for a security summit.

Daily News 24 reports that the governors were hosted for the summit by the United States Institute of Peace, a think thank.

https://twitter.com/Kyusufabba/status/1783037415382278538In a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday Mr Yusuf said the summit was meant to address human and food security threats in the northern region.

“I’m in Washington DC, alongside other state governors for the Security and Peace Summit organized by the African Center of the United States Institute of Peace, Washington DC.

“The summit is part of the regional commitment to enhance cooperation between our states in eliminating the threat of human and food insecurity. – AKY,” Governor Yusuf wrote.

Other governors that joined him on the trip include Umar Bago of Niger state, Dikko Radda of Katsina state, Dauda Lawal Dare of Zamfara state, Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Nasir Idris of Kebbi state and Uba Sani of Kaduna state.

The northern region has for years been beset by security threats from terrorists and armed bandits who kidnap citizens for ransom.

Some of the worst hit states include Zamfara, Kaduna and Katsina states.
