The Federal University of Kashere (FUK) on Friday matriculated 3,448 freshmen.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the students who were admitted in the 2020/2021 session are in the faculties of Agriculture, Science, Humanities /Management and Social Science, Education and Science.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umaru Pate, said 2,319 of the matriculating students were males and 1,129 females.

He said with the current enrollment, the number of undergraduates was 9,87 which did not include the students admitted for the institution’s one-year remedial programme.

Pate urged the freshmen to stay away from drugs and cultism as well as gender-based violence or rape.

“As young people who represent the future of Nigeria, respect our multicultural and plural nature.

“Always appreciate our diversity and tolerate the differences and heterogeneities in our country, which were aptly manifested on our campus,” he said.

The vice-chancellor said the university had secured the approval of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria to commence the one-year Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) advanced level (A level) programme with effect from August.

According to him, the remedial and IJMB programmes are pre-degree arrangements designed to offer eligible students intensive coaching in 12 months to prepare them for UMTE and direct entry admissions into FUK and other Nigerian universities.
