The Kebbi State commander of Nigeria Vigilante Group under the leadership of Umar Bako and Alhaji Lawal Muhammad Augie has said the rescue mission launched in Kebbi aimed at securing the release of the students of the federal government college abducted by heavily armed bandits.

Augie, who spoke in Birnin Kebbi, said his men have been on the kidnappers’ trail since the abduction.

He explained that they might not be seen physically as deep intelligence gathering, which is critical to rescue operations.

He added that his men apprehended a notorious bandit in the Sakaba local government area of Kebbi State who happened to be part of the kidnappers operating within Zuru in Kebbi and Zamfara axis and was handed over to the police.

He stated that another one was arrested with AK 47 and three magazines, two loaded with ammunition. At the same time, one is empty; all achieved after the arrest of informants in the affected villages.

He maintained that the rescue mission might be slow but certain because the kidnappers are using their victims as shields to avoid arrest and delay the rescue mission, he said.

He denies rumour making the rounds that the state government is not doing anything to rescue the abducted students. He confirmed receipt of 25 motorcycles to each local government and some cash as logistics.

Recall that in early June 2021, some 109 students of the federal government college Birnin Yauri were abducted by armed bandits after a gun duel; about 50 days later, some 90 of them are still in captivity the battle to rescue them rages.
