The Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ), the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Plateau on Monday, called on the Nigerian Police not to stall the reported child abuse cases.

They gave the call on in Jos in a news conference on the reported incessant cases of child abuse in Plateau.

Plateau NAWOJ Chairperson Nene Dung said that perpetrators of child abuse should be served justice and the Nigeria Police shouldn’t disrupt the process.

She said that prosecution and justice would serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of the act.

She further called on the Plateau government to provide safe homes that would serve as a shelter for children being abused.

Similarly, the chairperson of FIDA in Plateau, Mrs Ngozi Achilefu, called for the full implementation of the Violence Against persons (Prohibition) Act, the Child Right Law and the Penal Code Law of Plateau which protect the right of a child.

She further called for justice for Margret Joshua, a child who died due to the severe torture from her supposed guardian.

Achilefu said that people should desist from the act of employing minors as helps.

NHRC Coordinator in Plateau Grace Pam said that the state had received 247 cases of abuses between January and October.

Pam called on the public to always report cases of child abuse to the commission.
