1. Rivers Hoopers win 2021 premier league basketball trophy

Rivers Hoopers basketball team on Tuesday emerged winners of the 2021 Super Eight men’s Basketball Premier League.

In the final match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, Rivers Hoopers defeated Gombe Bulls 74- 57 to lift the trophy.

Gombe Bulls took the lead in the first quarter by 22-14, but failed to keep the momentum as Rivers Hoopers fought back to take the lead in the last three-quarters of the game.

Rivers Hoopers led 20-9 in the second quarter 20-9 and continued the fight by taking the third quarter by 23-12.

The team won the last quarter by one point at 15-14 to make the final score 74-57.

2. Edo 2020: Delta approves N456m reward for athletes for emerging tops

Delta Government on Tuesday approved the sum of N456 million to reward the winning state team at the National Sports Festival, tagged, “Edo 2020”.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, who disclosed this to newsmen in Asaba, said this is part of the decisions reached at State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Tuesday in Government House.

3. 2 killed, scores injured as gunmen attack Taraba community

Unknown gunmen on Tuesday killed two persons in a fresh attack on Rafinkada village of Wukari Local Government Council of Taraba State.
Several persons were confirmed to have sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries in the bloody attack.

4. EndSARS massacre: SERAP to sue Buhari, demands prosecution of officers who shot protesters

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has threatened to institute legal action against President Muhammadu Buhari government.

SERAP said it is suing Buhari to compel the arrest of soldiers and police officers involved in shooting EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State.

5. EndSARS report confirms APC as murderous party – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “murderous party”.

This was sequel to the report of the Special Panel instituted to investigate the alleged killings of some youths at the Lekki tollgate, Lagos, October last year, during the #EndSARS national rally.

6. NULGE demands release of 12 kidnapped members including 9 nursing mothers

The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Tuesday demanded the immediate and unconditional release of nine nursing mothers and four other members including working with Zaria Local Government kidnapped on November 8, 2021.
National President of NULGE, Akeem Olatunji who spoke in Abuja, decried perceived silence of the Kaduna State government since the abduction of council workers.

7. Bandits kill 15 in Sokoto attacks

Sokoto State government yesterday confirmed that bandits killed 15 persons in two of its councils.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal said the 15 were killed when the gunmen invaded Goronyo and Illela councils between Sunday night and yesterday morning.

The governor released the grim information shortly before presenting the state’s 2022 draft budget to members of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.

Giving some detail on the incident, he said 12 persons were killed in Illela and three in Goronyo.
8. Buhari condemns Sokoto killings, says bandits living in fool’s paradise

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the massacre of 15 people in Goronyo and Illela Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, saying that bandits are living in a fool’s paradise.

The president, who made the condemnation in a statement issued by his Spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu on Tuesday in Abuja, warned that “this needless and mindless violence against innocent people cannot go unpunished.’’

9. #EndSARS report confirms N410m award to 70 petitioners

10. NDLEA directs Narcotic Assistant candidates to report for training

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has directed successful candidates for the second and third batches of Narcotic Assistant (NASS) to report for training in the order of groups and dates scheduled against their names.

The agency’s spokesman Femi Babafemi said while the names of candidates in the second batch had been published on July 7, 2021, the third batch third was published with this statement.
