Although many politicians are contesting for the seat of governorship in Kano state under different political parties, however, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial joint ticket of Dr.

Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Hon. Murtala Sule Garo appeared to be the best combination of candidates desirable to govern the state.

It is evident that APC in Kano state has made a right choice by allowing the duos of Gawuna and Garo to run for the seat on its platform considering their track records.

Dr. Gawuna, an incumbent deputy governor of the state, has served the state in different capacities before he become deputy governor and now gubernatorial candidate of the APC in the state.
He served as chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state for several years and later elevated to the position of commissioner of agriculture under Malam Ibrahim Shekarau-led government.

After Shekarau completed his eight-years-tenure, Dr. Gawuna was retained as commissioner of Agriculture by the Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, who was re-elected as governor in 2015 to serve his second tenure.

Again, after the incumbent governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje took over the mantle of leadership in 2015; Gawuna retained his position as commissioner of Agriculture and later appointed deputy governor after the exit of Dr. Hafiz Abubakar, the former deputy governor of the state.

Despite serving under three different governments, Gawuna has never been found wanting for disobedience and disrespect to his bosses and or sabotaging the governments that he was worked under.

Gawuna has brought tremendous developments in the agricultural sub-sector as commissioner before he finally relinquished his position as commissioner in order to contest for governor.

His running mate, Hon. Murtala Sule Garo on the other hand, also served the state at different capacities before he was picked to a joined ticket as deputy governor for the ruling party in the state.

Garo served no fewer than two successive governments of Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje respectively.

Under Dr. Kwankwaso-led administration, Garo served as local government chairman of Kabo local government for several years and later elected chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON).

After Dr. Ganduje took over government in 2015, Garo was not only retained in government but elevated to the position of commissioner for local government, a position he retained until when he was picked to be a running mate for Dr. Gawuna.

Going by their track records in politics, one will not dispute the fact that if elected as governor and deputy governor in 2023, Gawuna and Garo will bring tremendous developments to the state at all levels.

At least, their records have shown that the duos have vast experiences in governance, managing human being and handling the affairs of people.

If the duos can achieved such achievements while serving as stakeholders under someone’s government, one would wonder what they could achieve if given a chance to serve as captains of the ship.

Evidently, Gawuna and Garo are the type of politicians Kano is needed for a true and genuine transformation that will distinguish the state to bear its name as center of commerce.
