The Nigerian troops have engaged in a gun battle with bandits leading to the rescue of thirteen abducted persons in Kaduna.

The gun battle, and rescue of the persons by the troops which occurred in Gwagwada, chikun Local Government area of Kaduna state was said to have been on the height of the credible intelligence received on the abduction, trailed the bandits to a forest near Bana village and engaged the bandits in a gun fight.

Giving the security update of the state, Kaduna commissioner of Internal Security, and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said the 13 persons rescued were attacked by the armed bandits on their way to the farm.

“Troops have reported the rescue of 13 kidnapped persons from bandits in Gwagwada, Chikun local government area”

The 13 citizens, originally from Dutse, went to work at a farm called Tanadi Farm, which is located around Bakin Kasuwa in Gwagwada general area of Chikun LGA. They were attacked by the armed bandits in the process”.

Aruwan, in a related development, confirmed the death of two persons killed by the bandits, as well raze church in the area.

“After the operations, the troops discovered that the bandits had shot two volunteers before their arrival. The two deceased were identified as: Ezekiel Iliya and Nasara Yohanna.

“The bandits also burnt a church and looted some houses in the area”, he confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, unto receiving the report, commended the swift response of the troops by rescuing the victims.

He commiserate with the families of the deceased, prayed for the repose of their souls, and also tasked the State Emergency management Agency (SEMA) to asses the level of damage on the houses looted for upward review.
