Nigerian doctors from northern states have begun a training on kidney transplant and urology at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) in Kano state.

Daily News 24 reports that the training was sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), as part of efforts to impart knowledge and skills on the use of modern medical equipment to conduct successful kidney transplants.

Professor Sagir Adamu, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), who spoke at the even noted success of the AKTH in conducting more than 100 transplants since 2002.

Professor Adamu stressed the importance of sustainability and extending these services to other health facilities.

On his part, the Acting Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Professor Abdulrahman Sheshe, represented by Dr. Dalhatu Gwarzo, praised the workshop’s relevance and acknowledged TETFund’s contributions to kidney transplant efforts.

Similarly, Umar Ali, a contractor supplying laboratory equipment for AKTH, mentioned an investment of over N200 million in equipment like transplant operation tools and kidney stone crushers.
