Insecurity Preventing Northern Children From Immunisation – Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed concern over the inability of northern children to access immunisation due to insecurity and other factor.

The sultan yesterday in Kaduna chaired a strategic meeting with traditional leaders and development partners to chart a way forward

The meeting, organised by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), in collaboration with the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development, discussed the challenges preventing northern children from accessing immunisation services.

In attendance were representatives of the United Children Trust Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), Kaduna State Deputy Governor Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe and other stakeholders.

Ministerial portfolios: Oil workers demand results as Tinubu heads petroleum ministry

Oil workers have demanded results as President Bola Tinubu assigned the Petroleum Ministry portfolio to himself.

Like his predecessor, the President will head the petroleum ministry while a former Senator, Heineken Lokpobiri, is the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources.

The President on Wednesday unveiled the portfolios of 45 ministers nine days after they were confirmed by the Senate in a week-long screening exercise.

The ministers will be sworn in on by the President at the State House Conference, Aso villa, Abuja on Monday.

All bottlenecks in ease of doing business to go – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has assured investors that his ongoing repositioning of the economy will receive a boost as he conducts an intensified removal of all bottlenecks in the way of efficient business startup and administration in Nigeria, with a particular emphasis on efficiency in service, tax reviews, and improved security.

He gave the assurance on Wednesday at the presidential villa in Abuja while receiving Ade Adeola, Managing Director of Energy and Natural Resources in Europe, Africa and the Middle East for Standard Chartered Bank; President Tinubu said his administration was already working hard on making a difference in attracting investments.

Wike, Umahi, Edun get FCT, Works, Finance ministries

President Bola Tinubu yesterday assigned portfolios to 45 of the 48 ministers he appointed recently, with former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, heading the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and his ex-Ebonyi State counterpart, David Umahi, for Works Ministry.

The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs appeared to have been scrapped as it was not on the ministerial list released yesterday.

The list was announced last night by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelae.

According to the list, Mr Wale Edun is the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Bunmi Tunji is the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.

Resurgence of killings threatens N’Central states, food production

The resurgence of brutal killings in the North Central geo-political zone, which increased since May 2023, claiming over 1200 lives within three months, has become a major threat to the N28 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the six states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) puts the GDP of the six states in 2021 as N4.58 trillion (Niger); N4.27 trillion (Benue); N3.69 trillion Kogi); N1.86 trillion (Nasarawa); N1.50 trillion (Plateau) and N1.38 trillion (Kwara).

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has a GDP of N10.6 trillion according to figures released by the NBS for 2017 year making the GDP of the six states and the FCT amount to N28 trillion.
