Organ Exploitation: How Abuja Syndicate Lured Minor For Kidney Harvest

Until February 19, 2023, the 16-year-old eldest son of Saliman Adedoyin, a 61-year-old mechanic from Kwara State who lives in Masaka, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State, near the FCT, Oluwatobi Adedoyin, was a boisterous youth.

He was eager to write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to fulfil his dream of studying cartoon editing under theatre arts.

However, everything changed on the day he was scheduled for his biometrics. From visiting the JAMB centre near his home, Oluwatobi was never seen or heard from by his parents. A month later, a family friend called his father to inform him that his son had arrived in Lagos State.

Subsidy: Marketers demand transparency as ex-depot cost exceeds pump price

Despite announcing the removal of subsidy on petrol and more than 400 per cent subsequent rise in the price, the Federal Government may be secretly paying an unspecified amount to marketers of the product to maintain the current pump price.

President Bola Tinubu had during his inaugural speech on Monday, May 29, 2023, announced that the era of subsidy payment on Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, was over. This announcement led to an instant rise in the pump price of the commodity from N189 to about N500.

Presently, petrol sells for between N568 and N617 in different parts of the country due to what government officials and the NNPC Limited described as foreign exchange fluctuations as the product is exclusively being imported.

Tinubu okays establishment of presidential CNG initiative

Bola-Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).

According to a statement issued on Friday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), this is in furtherance of his commitment to easing the impact of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians by reducing energy costs.

The statement informed that the “transformative initiative is poised to revolutionize the transportation landscape in the country, targeting over 11,500 new CNG-enabled vehicles and 55,000 CNG conversion kits for existing PMS-dependent vehicles, while simultaneously bolstering in-country manufacturing, local assembly and expansive job creation in line with the presidential directive.”

Nigerians slam FG for dismantling ‘All Eyes on Judiciary’ billboards

In a bold and thought-provoking move, billboards emblazoned with the phrase ‘All Eyes on the Judiciary’ recently sprang up across Abuja, capturing the attention of passersby.

Similarly, on the streets and in the markets across the country, it has become fashionable for the youths and women to adorn T-shirts and carry bags with ‘All Eyes on the Judiciary’ message.

This development sparked a heated debate within Nigeria’s advertising and legal communities.

However, the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON, swiftly deemed the billboards offensive and issued an order for their immediate removal.

Subsidy: Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Benue, Delta lead states without clear palliative plans

Notwithstanding last Thursday’s approval of N5 billion for each of the 36 states of the federation by the Federal Government for procurement of food items and fertilisers as part of efforts to alleviate the sufferings occasioned by the removal of petrol subsidy, many of the states are yet to have any concrete palliatives plan for their residents.

This is even as the residents of some states that have started implementing some palliatives are divided on the impact of such measures on their wellbeing.

While some residents scored the initiatives very low, others applauded them but called for improvement and adoption of other measures.

The council also suspended its top officials for allowing the erection of the billboards while also disbanding their unit.
