Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) Professor Garba Hamidu Sharubutu has urged the management of Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology to dedicate themselves toward the vision and mission of establishing the college, by solving various farming problems.

Professor Garba Hamidu Sharubutu stated this during second Alumni reunion held in Kano.

Prof. Sharubutu said it is mandated for the experts in the college to come up with new ideas, technologies, reduce wastes and boost agricultural processing in the country.

He added that, “we’re technologies and scientists, that society is looking to provide new innovations in the farming system.

“There’re so many developments in farming, particularly taking into consideration the resources put in place to train, educate and impact farmers so that their system will be improved.

“The Rudimentary way of farming that was in practice during our grandfathers is no longer viable, in the new system the type of input and application of fertilizer must be science based.

“We’re farming in such a way that we beat the weather; we’re doing it on water and on green houses, so we need to be highly innovative because the system is beyond rain base agriculture,” Prof. Sharubutu said.

The Executive Secretary, Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria then appealed to the experts and lecturers to use available opportunities given to them in boosting their educational status.

”Because education is the key to any development, so I’m calling to those with masters degrees to go back and acquire more, so the application of the knowledge will be easy and they’ll transfer the best to their students and maintain the standard of the institution.”

Responding to the recent crisis in the institution, he said the problem happens as a result of misinformation from the management to the board governing the institution, “they think every aspect of the college has to be governed by them.

“As far as I’m concerned, it was an unfortunate situation, in which the Board needed to know their statutory role, there is need for any level to know their roles and responsibility, where it started and where it ends.” He said.

Speaking earlier, the Provost of the college Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram, promised to prove himself beyond reasonable doubt in improving farming situation in the country.

He then appreciates the occasion organized by his students, and urges them to maintain the gesture.
