The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has drawn the attention of the public in the need to revive lost norms and good values of integrity, honesty and morality lost over time in Nigeria.
ICPC Chairman Professor Bolaji Owasanoye expressed this at a one day stakeholders Zonal dialogue on the National Ethics and Integrity Policy, North West Zone in Kano.
Professor Bolaji Owasanoye who was represented by one of the ICPC Board Members, Justice Adamu Bello (Retired) said, the values of good character, nationalism, respect for one another where lost totally in the country, which triggered increasing rate of cases that are corruption related among the populace.
“If you need absolute peace and desired development in Nigeria, this old values of yesteryears must be in practice everywhere, especially among the younger generation.
“This measure will no doubt help in correcting so many wrong doing in Nigeria”, Justice Adamu Bello said.
In his remark, Lawal Haruna Makarfi who is the Director of National Orientation Agency (NOA) Kano said the Agency is working to notify the entire people of the country to know the Governmental Policies and Programmes, by means of educating them about the good side of anything that will improve their life and wellbeing, which National Ethics and Integrity Policy is important.
Speaking during the meeting, ICPC Commissioner in Kano Barrister Ibrahim Kagara said the motive behind the dialogue was to maintain nation good way of life that corruption has no room to stay in totality.
The Commissioner added that ICPC will ensure a better understanding of the Policy document that were produced in Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, for easy adoption by the target people.
“Stakeholders, people at the grassroot must key in to make sure the good values we’re talking about is implemented, for us to have a corruption free society”, Barrister Ibrahim Kagara said.
Participants from Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Jigawa showed their concern in support of the policy document.
