Gunmen, in the early hours of Tuesday, razed the country home of the Imo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Emeka Okoronkwo.
Also razed is the country home of a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Imo State University, Owerri, Nnamdi Obiaraeri, who served as Commissioner for Information, Youths, and Sports as well as Land and Urban Planning, respectively, during the administrations of former governors of the state, Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha.
The country home of a retired Director of the Department of Security Service, Emeka Ngwu, was also burned.
Punch reports that an old woman who was in Ngwu’s house died in the fire.
Two houses belonging to two other prominent sons of the area, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, were also burnt.
The incident happened at the Amagu Ihube community in the Okigwe Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the attack and that an investigation had started in order to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Ihube has recently become a hotbed of criminal activities, with the country homes of the candidate of the Labour Party for Okigwe Local Government Area, Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, and the director general of the campaign organization of the LP’s House of Representatives candidate, Okey Unam, burned.
