The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly defiling a two-year-old minor in Edo State on June 7.
Parading the suspect, Edo Police State Command’s spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect committed the offence in Egba community, Uhunwonde Local Government.
He said the police received a report that the suspect had defiled a two-year-old baby in the community and promptly arrested the suspect.
Nwabuzor said an investigation into the matter is ongoing under the gender unit of the criminal investigation department.
He assured that as soon as the investigation was completed, the suspect would be charged in court.
In an interview with journalists, the suspect said he didn’t know what came over him.
He said, “The two-year-old girl always comes to meet my sister. She came on this day, and I told her to go back home because my sister was not around, but she refused to go.
“So, I then carry her, put her on the bed, and pull her knickers halfway down. But I did not defile her. I did not penetrate her, I only put my penis in between her laps.
“I didn’t know what came over me because I hadn’t done it before,” he said.
