The Kano State government has approved a substantial budget of N29,064,181,673.65 for various capital projects aimed at enhancing social and physical development throughout the state.

This decision was made during a recent State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Abba Yusuf.

According to a statement from the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the approval reflects a significant investment in the state’s infrastructure and development. Governor Yusuf granted this approval at the meeting, which was convened to address and advance the stateโ€™s developmental goals.

The statement detailed the allocations as follows: โ€œThe approved amount, which represents a 10 percent rescue intervention, will be jointly funded through the state joint state and local governments account with a 30:70 share, respectively.โ€

In addition to this major allocation, the council approved N239,536,859.21 for the construction of three rural roads in Jaโ€™en Makera-Salanta Gudduba-Unguwar Baizangon Guliya and Fagoje-Kwanar Zuwo, which will benefit Gwale, Ajingi, and Kiru/Madobi Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The government also sanctioned N7,123,750,000.00 for the procurement of 500 relief transformers, which will be distributed across the 44 local government areas in the state.

Furthermore, N6,400,000,000.00 was approved for the 2024 constituency projects in the state. Other approvals included N343,363,068.78 for the construction of a 2-coat surface-dressed road from Kwanar Gammawa in Gezawa LGA and N819,500,000.00 for the procurement of 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles and one Toyota Bus for various state ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

Additional funding of N5,345,343,190.98 was granted for the construction of rural roads and intervention funds under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project. The council also approved N26,405,447.92 for the renovation and conversion of offices for the Chairman of the Anti-Phone Snatching Task Force Committee at Coronation Hall, Government House.

Other resolutions included N29,619,918.23 for repairing a failed section of asphaltic surfacing at the Tower at Kofar Nassarawa, N354,766,992.59 for a 30 percent counterpart fund for the construction and rehabilitation of 12 rural roads, N248,786,369.72 for expanding crash barriers and street curbs, and N130,460,000.00 for harmonized allowances for 2,803 casual staff at the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board.
