Students at Bayero University Kano have reacted to the revival of on-campus jobs amidst the resumption crisis.

Daily News 24 reports that the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Prof. Adamu Sagir, has confirmed this in a meeting with a group from the university’s main campus and the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).

Adamu-Abbas said that the university engaged students to render some services to the institution, and they were paying N15,000 monthly.

In an interview with some students, they expressed joy and anticipation for the on-campus job.

This follows the recent hikes in registration fees for students by over 200%.

Halimah Asabe, a student at BUK, reacted to how helpful the on-campus job would be to her.

“It would be very helpful. Most students here are the ones sponsoring themselves. Bringing back the job will actually do a whole lot and help me sort out some bills as well.”

Another student, Habib Umar, laments his dire need for work as he applied for the last session but was not successful.

“Especially to students that find it hard to feed in school. Also, this would be an opportunity to earn a little money while schooling, so it’ll be very helpful.” He said.

In an interview with Daily News 24, a third student, Elizabeth, stated the need to face the challenges of students who are not able to benefit, as very few people partake in the scheme.

“Most of us are not even within the school environment; others are already occupied with part-time jobs. We are in the digital era, and the school should make provisions for a wider range of students to benefit from scholarships or similar opportunities to help us, an average student in school now is lacking in a lot of areas.” Elizabeth said.
